KERAVA UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL

Kerava Upper Secondary School is located in the centre of Kerava within easy distance of good public transport connections both to Helsinki and other towns nearby. In October 2009 the school has moved into a renovated building with new facilities in the very heart of Kerava. The town of Kerava has about 32 000 inhabitants and it is situated about 30 kilometres north of Helsinki.

Kerava Upper Secondary School has approximately 600 students and 40 teachers. The students are 16-19 years old. The school provides high-quality education and its aim is for students to take the Finnish matriculation examination, which gives a student general university entry qualifications. The school year is divided into five periods and it runs from mid-August till the end of May.

The school is a non-graded upper secondary school where a great variety of options offers the students a chance to develop their own talents. Kerava Upper Secondary School has broad variety of courses in different subjects, which allows students to plan an individual study program based on their own tendencies and future career plans. For example, students can study many languages, such as English, Swedish, German, French, Spanish and Russian. The school also offers several courses in art, music, drama and physical education.

Upper Secondary School Diplomas
Students of Kerava Upper Secondary School can complete general upper secondary school diplomas in different subjects such as music, art, drama and physical education.

Cooperation
Kerava Upper Secondary School cooperates closely with different educational institutes in Keski-Uusimaa. These institutes include for example Musiikkiopisto, Tanssiopisto and Kuvataidekoulu in Kerava. Students may also take courses offered by Keski-Uusimaa Upper Secondary School for Adults that operates under the same roof.

International Cooperation
Kerava Upper Secondary School is internationally active. In addition to student exchange programs, the school has been involved in several international projects such as history course in Rome, biology and sports course in Poland and cooperation with China. The goal is to offer students knowledge and experiences of different cultures and at the same time provide them with opportunities to make international connections for the future.
